Why You're Not Achieving Your Goals.

It's getting to that time of the year. You know, that time. Where you remember you set resolutions for 2019. When you reflect on the progress you have made with these. When you struggle to even remember what you said you were going to do perhaps?!

By now, I would say the majority of people are feeling like they haven't made progress on what they planned to do this year. Maybe what you dedicated to wasn't meaningful or important enough. Maybe you have been "busy" with life. Maybe you didn't fully commit.

When you think about people that are really focused on their goals, you can tell they're 100% committed. It doesn't matter what happens or where they're lead astray, they're in it. Depending on their goal, these people will say no to social engagements, they'll pack salads everyday for lunch, whatever it takes to stay aligned to what they want. They have this level of focus, this grit that is unparalleled.

And then you think about the opposite to this - Maybe this is you, or someone you know. Do you commit to something, then fall off the bandwagon?

There is always an excuse to why people stop working towards what they want, they give it a break, they have something else on or any number of reasons why they don't or "can't" commit. Perhaps you are nodding along this as we speak!

Why does that happen and what is that really all about?

I believe it comes down to how much you really care about your goal and how it is being framed. If your goal feels more like a punishment or if what you want is wrapped up in your own self-esteem, then quite often you'll fail at that goal. It can become a self-fulfilling prophecy, of not being good enough or smart enough (or so you tell yourself), which leads you to abandon your intentions.

So the question is, do you care enough to focus on your goal? This relates to where your passion lies and how important the outcome is to you.

It's okay to fall off sometimes, or slack off for awhile, or make mistakes. But you need to build resilience (

) and keep pushing ahead. Get back on, get back up and get going again as quickly as possible, instead of stopping altogether.

If you feel like you have left your goals for this year behind, I want you to take some time to reflect on why you set the goal, resolution or intention in the first place. What was driving you when you set it? What were you interested in? Why is this meaningful to you?

If you struggle to answer these questions, this is the first sign that your goal needs to be explored a little more. Maybe you need to reframe it or tweak it slightly so it's more rewarding or achievable. Ensure your goal isn't negative or punitive and is still relatable to you. And of course, come back to why this is important.

What is it that you want to get out of this goal? Perhaps it isn't even attainable! In this case, don't be afraid to let it go. If you're feeling overwhelmed, chunk it down into smaller, more manageable goals.

Recommit to your goals, resolutions and/or intentions for the rest of this year with these simple steps!
